The 5th Hong Kong Science and Technology Expo ("Science and Technology Expo") hosted by the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 27-28 June 2026. Nearly 120 teams from primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong will showcase their creative inventions combining artificial intelligence and diverse technological applications. This year's exhibition is sponsored by Sino Group, supported by the Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Hong Kong Testing and Certification Bureau (HKCTC) as a strategic partner. The Organizing Committee is also honored to invite the China Science and Technology Development Foundation to serve as the guiding institution for the first time, and will send a representative to attend the awards ceremony to witness the birth of this year's winning teams. The event has been well received by the public in previous years and online registration is now open to the public.
With the flight of Hong Kong's first astronaut, Lai Ka-ying, the local innovation and technology atmosphere has gained even more attention. This year's Science and Technology Expo will feature space engineering elements, allowing citizens to learn about the daily work and challenges of payload specialists and gain insights into the reality of space research, inspiring more young people to explore space. Dr. Lai Ka-ying flew into space aboard the Shenzhou Twenty-Three spacecraft and is expected to stay in space for about six months to perform space science experiments and maintenance missions. Visitors can express their support and encouragement to her by making a greeting card. In addition, UBTECH ROBOTICS, a global leader in humanoid intelligence robotics, will also participate in the exhibition, showcasing a range of humanoid robots to bring the charm of intelligence to life.
Professor Sun Dong, JP, Secretary for Innovation and Technology Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said, "The Hong Kong SAR Government is committed to promoting Hong Kong's development as an international innovation and technology center, and talent is the key to fostering innovation and technology development. The Hong Kong Science and Technology Expo, hosted by the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation, has now entered its fifth year and has become an annual flagship event for science and technology education. The exhibition provides students with a valuable platform to turn their creativity into reality, enhancing their interest in innovation and technology, and building their confidence in pursuing a career in this field. At the same time, it promotes the integration of innovation and technology in schools and communities, creating a vibrant innovation culture. I look forward to seeing more young people showcase their talents and release their potential through this platform, joining the innovation and technology industry, and contributing to the high-quality development of Hong Kong and our country."
Mr. Ng Win Kong, Daryl, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation and Chairman of Sino Group, said, "Innovation and technology are crucial to Hong Kong's long-term development and an important part of the country's 15th Five-Year Plan. Hong Kong needs to continuously enhance its innovation and technology capabilities and actively integrate into the national development landscape, as evidenced by Dr. Lai Ka-ying becoming the first Hong Kong astronaut, marking a historic moment. We are pleased to see the increasing importance given to innovation and technology, which opens up new opportunities for young talents aspiring to pursue a career in scientific research. Now in its fifth year, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Expo has grown to its current scale thanks to the continuous support from the Special Administrative Region Government, industry partners, universities, research institutions, and judging panel experts. We are delighted to have the guidance and support of the China Science and Technology Development Foundation this year, and the Expo will continue to uphold the philosophy of nurturing talents from a young age, uniting forces from all sectors to promote innovation and technology for all."
Professor Sham Ho-cheung, MH, Chairman of the Judging Committee of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Expo and President of the Hong Kong Youth Academy of Sciences, said, "The Science and Technology Expo adopts a 'competition-cum-exhibition' model, allowing students to transform their learning outcomes into tangible and verifiable projects, which is an important part of cultivating a young generation of innovators in Hong Kong. I am delighted to have participated in this event for many years as a judge, witnessing students enhance their communication skills and build confidence through interactions with experts, workshops, and public exhibitions of their research results. Every year, the standard of the participating teams' projects continues to impress, with projects not only combining artificial intelligence and diverse technological applications but also spanning different fields. Scientific research is a journey that requires passion and perseverance, and the curiosity that young scientists develop during their middle and high school years often fuels their future success. We hope that through these exchanges, the exemplary role of young scientists will inspire more students to pursue a lifelong career in science and technology. I look forward to seeing this young generation continue to shine in their scientific research and innovation endeavors, and officially join the scientist community in the near future to drive the development of Hong Kong's innovation ecosystem."
Mr. Tan Min, Chief Brand Officer of UBTECH ROBOTICS, said, "Humanoid robots are the best carriers of artificial intelligence technology, embodying the future direction of deep integration between intelligent entities and the physical world. As a leading company in the field of humanoid robots, UBTECH ROBOTICS has always been at the forefront of humanoid robotics, with a long-term commitment to innovation and technology education, striving to transform advanced technologies into accessible and popular educational resources. We hope that through collaboration with like-minded innovation partners such as the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation, we can inspire more students and teachers to engage with humanoid robots and artificial intelligence, making a tangible contribution to the construction of Hong Kong's innovation and technology education ecosystem, nurturing future-oriented innovative talents for Hong Kong, and laying a solid foundation for long-term development."
Since its inception in 2021, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Expo has attracted more than 400 local schools and nearly 9,000 students from Primary Four to Secondary Six, receiving over 2,200 creative invention projects and a total of more than 120,000 visitors, gradually becoming an important platform for youth innovation and technology exchanges in Hong Kong, as well as a highly representative innovation and technology education activity in Hong Kong. This year's event has been well received, with over 500 project submissions. After the initial selection, nearly 120 teams of students and teachers were selected to participate in a series of workshops and expert guidance sessions, and will exhibit their projects at the end of June, competing for various awards. The gold award winners in each category will also have the opportunity to participate in the Geneva International Invention Expo in Switzerland, exchanging ideas with innovative talents from around the world.
The Hong Kong Science and Technology Expo attracts tens of thousands of citizens to visit every year. During the exhibition, the venue will be transformed into a science and technology carnival for all ages, featuring student project displays and five interactive zones, including DIY bubble bath balls, making shaved ice without a refrigerator, a 5th-anniversary-themed game, and a modified small appliance remote-controlled car race, allowing visitors of all ages to experience the wonders of science and innovation:
Coinciding with the 5th anniversary of the Science and Technology Expo, the Organizing Committee will also launch a limited-time experience to celebrate this milestone. There will be a hidden character treasure hunt and photo check-in game within the venue, and participants who complete the task and show their photos will receive a exquisite gift. Additionally, a limited-edition "Science and Technology No. 5" metal plaque set and a "Special Edition Robo K. Blind Box" will be on sale. All proceeds from the "Science and Technology Market" within the venue will be donated to charity, without deducting any costs, to continuously promote local technology innovation projects.
